Mi casa y mi familia - Barrett Olson

I live in a wonderful little apartment just off of the corner of Calle Sócrates and Camino de Ronda. I live with my host mother, Isabel Ruiz and my friend/brother Carlos.

First Mi Casa: From the front door to my bed room

I love my house here. My room is very small but it is definitely worth it being close to everything and having such a wonderful family.

My house in the united states is different in the stereotypical ways you would hear if you asked a Spanish person the difference between houses here and in the US. My house back home is bigger especially my room and I have a back and front yard. Besides that the actual set up is rather similar, I share a bathroom with a sibling in both houses. The only thing I really miss is having animals around. They make a house seem more like a home in my opinion.

My family in Granada is similar to my family back home in Arkansas is many ways but it does have some very distinct differences. In both homes I live with a single mother and one sibling. The key difference is back in Arkansas that sibling is an adorable 7 year old girl and here that sibling is a 21 year old male college student.

My Madre here is a extremely charismatic and out going person. She works a manger of food distribution for Frutanova. She is a wonderful cook that is always getting me to try new things.

My host brother and I have become fast friends. Carlos is a student at the University of Granada's School of Sports Sciences. He spends much of this time studying and hanging out with me and his girlfriend Carmen(below). We enjoy watching Game of Thrones and practicing my Spanish and his English. Carlos loves to show me all of this favorite spots in the city including a delicious mexican restaurant and the discotecha CAMPUS (below). Carlos has made my first three weeks here wonderful as we continue to grow closer I know that it is going to be hard to leave.

I love my Casa and Familia here but I also really miss my family back in the United States. It is a complicated mix of emotions but one thing that I know for sure is that I am very excited to see what the last three few weeks holds for me.
