spanish street style
People in Granada dress to impress, whether they are going to school, church or even the gym. All of the women, at least who I have seen, even teenage girls, wear full makeup whenever they are in public. I usually don't wear makeup during the day and definitely stand out. Maybe this is an Andalusian trend that isn't as common all over Spain but i wonder about its origin and if women feel like they have to wear makeup or if they actually enjoy this daily ritual.
Also, both men and women here seem to care a lot more about their hair. As opposed to in the US where it's very common for girls to have short hair, in Spain I've barely seen girls with anything but very long hair. It is common for men even in their 40s here to wear their hair long.
As for clothes, women wear dresses and skirts often but also many women wear open toed shoes and heels on a daily basis. I think it's easier to wear dresses, skirts, and sandals here because the weather is milder and more predictable than in Michigan and there is rarely any snow or rain to trudge through. To cater to these needs, there is at least one shoe store on every block and on my way to class in the morning I pass seven!
El Zapato Rojo is a shoe store I pass every morning on my way to class located off of plaza Trinidad.
Also most women carry large purses here as where in the US this is less common. Even young girls have purses the size of tote bags indicating this is an accessory rather than a necessity.
The senior citizens also dress more formally than they do in America. All of the older women I've seen wear a low heel and large pearls. Not only this but they seem to be more active and outside more. I feel like I see just as many people who are above 65 walking on the streets and in restaurants than every other age people including little kids. In Spain, it seems like no one is left home hone the family wants to go out.
